Green light

Today we had our second pitch after getting a red light in our last meeting. We had evaluated all that was pointed out and noticed that there was much of an improvement in detail of our pitch. we sorted out the opening sequence and synopsis, to give a much simple and clear idea. we also added in our theme of titles and kind of music to present a complete idea of what we all three had pictured. this means we all know exactly what we are aiming for and how our piece should look like. I'm extremely happy with our pitch today as to me it even sounded by far clearer and we successful got the Green Light to move onto more detail and planing for the pr-production.

I really like the opening sequence of "Dexter" the series from my first analyses. It has a lot of close up shot, making everything which seems normal very menacing and daunting. which would be great for our opening sequence, and through our discussion it was what seemed to match up to everyone idea of how the film will start. We want the audience to straight away feel unease by the mans pleasures. Instead we will ave close up shot of thing such as drugs, money, knives, gory food and cigarettes and alcohol. Also since this is a drama series we will make it more movie like we will have cut-away titles.

Individual Reflection

 

From looking at the feedback I understood everything that our teachers and other group was suggesting. We will be having a meeting on Monday to discuss all these point and present another treatment as we did not successfully get a green light, however we didn’t get a red light either; just need improvements. Here is what I thought about our treatments presentation.

• ·         Firstly we hadn’t presented ourselves correctly through the choice of words making us seem uninsured about our decision for our distributor “Miramax”. We used the word niche and they didn’t understand why Miramax would be distributing us. We was meant to say Miramax distribute stylised/indie films, and even distributed one of our main inspirations Kill Bill

• ·         We also forgot to add in one of our main inspiration kill bill which just showed we wasn’t ready to present ourselves.

• ·         The story plot seemed very confused as previous ideas were brought up, about her becoming an assassin because of revenge but it becomes too complicated. So her story would be that she just became a professional assassin through the government.

• ·         We hadn’t spoken about titles weather its will be superimposed of cutaway. This brought confusion and yet again made us seem unprepared. I think at the end of that discussion we will all want cutaway titles, as it will make our sequence more of a film than a TV drama.

• ·         We had an issue on how the main character will cover her tracks; we agreed that she would need gloves.  I’m not too keen on her having a mask, which is more for robbery.

• ·         We also need to look into music tracks; we all know we want stylised music such as classical music.

• ·         There was a lot of questioning on the mortality of our main character, I see here as a flawed heroin as she is seen as evil at the start (very cold) but through the movie we see her struggle to do right and defeat the baddies.

• ·         There was also a discussion on our main scene where the man gets shot. We were asked if we had researched into how this would be done which, we will now.

From this meeting we have realised there is still a lot to discuss and make clear. Hopefully when we next give the treatment we will present it well and get a green light.

The Title

Our inspiration for our title :




This is the trailer of the film "Colombiana" which i watched while looking at female assassin films. I loved the idea where the main character got her name and you saw this consistency through the film like a trade mark. She is called Cataleya which is a type of flower from Colombia. I researched into flower meanings with Nico and we was trying to look for a flower that meant revenge which was Bird's-foot Trefoil. This name was too long. we then came across the name Lotus which i had heard recently from a song and it meant Purity, chastity and eloquence, which we thought was ironic as she assassins people. We made a character from this: a cold character but inside she is pure and kind.

Catch up

A lot has happened so far since we are on the second week of our opening sequence.
we have done roughly two weeks of planning . I contributed a lot with many ideas, finally choosing the idea of a female assassin. I have contributed my acting skills to play the part of the female assassin; that way I know ill be reliable for shooting days and perform the way we want our character to be like. I have also being contributing a lot onto our blog, to make sure everything is written up and accounted of our progress.
